Funeral arrangements are developing for the three teenagers killed Saturday when a car went off a Lyon County road near Emporia and went upside down into the Cottonwood River.
Cremation is planned for 17-year-old Chase Luby and her brother, 13-year-old Paxton Luby. Private services will be held later. Roberts-Blue-Barnett is in charge of those arrangements.
Services will be announced later for 17-year-old Shelby Phoenix. Charter Funerals is handling those arrangements.
Meanwhile, Emporia’s business community is reaching out to help the families of three teenagers killed in Saturday’s wreck just south of town.
Through the end of May, Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal is giving all the proceeds of its watch battery sales to the families of the crash victims. Brian Filinger of Farm Bureau Financial Services has announced he will match that amount.
This comes on top of two established ways for residents to help the families. A fund remains active at Emporia State Federal Credit Union for the Luby family and a GoFundMe page is still collecting donations for Phoenix.
The Lubys and Phoenix were killed in a car crash into the Cottonwood River just south of Emporia on Saturday. The investigation continues into exactly how the crash unfolded. The Lyon County Coroner’s Office has listed drowning as the likely cause of death for all three teenagers.
