USD 253 Emporia is considering last week’s vaccination clinic at Emporia High School a success.
That was the report from USD 253 Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Kelly Bolin during the USD 253 Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening. Bolin and Superintendent Dr. Allison Anderson Harder presented the latest COVID-19 update to the board which showed the district’s test positivity rate is at 4.05 percent at this time.
Bolin reported that 100 students received vaccines at last week’s mass clinic at Emporia High School with an additional 34-36 family members or others also receiving vaccinations. With the success of the clinic, and the FDA and CDC’s decision this week to approve vaccinations for children ages 12-15, the district will be holding another clinic later this month at Emporia Middle School.
The district will be distributing additional information to families Thursday.
In other business, the board received the latest construction update from McCownGordon Construction for the Building for the Future Bond Initiative. According to Eric Woltje of McCownGordon work is currently behind schedule by roughly a month at Emporia High School and Walnut Elementary School.
Woltje says the main issues im[pacting the schedule are the rising costs of building materials and recent unfavorable weather. Woltje says McCownGordon is working to combat the material cost issue.
Woltje says work is still progressing on schedule at the new Jones Early Childhood Center and they are optimistic that the facility will still be complete by December of this year.
The Board of Education is next scheduled to convene on Wednesday, May 26 inside the Mary Herbert Education Center at 7 pm.
