The Emporia State baseball team will need to win 2 games Friday to advance to the MIAA Tournament semi-finals.
Central Missouri outscored the Hornets 3-2 Thursday in game 1 of the best of 3 first-round MIAA tournament series. Emporia State Coach Seth Wheeler said both teams grinded.
Central scored a run in the first inning.
Emporia State scored single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Central retook the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Cooper Minnick drove in the first run for the Hornets with a double.
Brigham Mooney scored the first run and drove in the 2nd run with a bunt single.
Jake Barton pitched all 8 innings for Emporia State giving up the 3 runs on 7 hits.
Central Missouri used 4 pitchers to nail down the win.
Emporia State will need to win twice to advance to the MIAA tournament semi-finals. Game 2 of the series will now be played beginning at 12pm Friday. The if-necessary game will be played 30 minutes after game 2.
