An Olpe teenager and Oklahoma resident both went to Newman Regional Health after a two-suv collision south of Emporia Monday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, just before 4:20 pm a 2007 Ford Escape driven by 17-year-old Kailey Alexis Miller of Olpe was traveling northbound on Kansas Highway 99 and came upon a stopped vehicle that was waiting to turn onto Road 100. Miller slammed on the breaks and veered to the left to avoid a collision and was struck by a southbound 2012 Ford Escape driven by 23-year-old Alyssa Kelly Umfleet of Bartlesville, OK.
The Miller SUV ended up on its top and Miller was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries. Umfleet, initially declined a trip to the hospital but later went by private vehicle with what are being called suspected minor injuries.
The driver of the stopped vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Emma Nicole Krueger was unharmed. All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
5 pm Monday: One person transported to Newman Regional Health after two-SUV collision
One person was hurt and hospitalized after two SUVs collided near Olpe on Monday.
The wreck at the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 100 was reported shortly after 4:15 pm. Details are pending, but one of the SUVs was on its top when law enforcement and rescue workers arrived. A person in that vehicle went by ambulance to Newman Regional Health.
One person in the other SUV declined treatment, according to Emporia Fire.
Traffic on Highway 99 was diverted around the crash site for about 45 minutes before gradually returning to normal.
