Sentencing is coming in July for a former plant maintenance manager at Emporia’s Tyson Fresh Meats facility after he pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.
David John Ranger will be sentenced July 28.
Ranger led Tyson’s local plant maintenance department from 2013 until September 2019 and was responsible for purchasing equipment, goods and services. Starting in December 2012, prosecutors said Ranger created a company in name only, “Electric Motor Repair.” He then used a Square account with his personal information, linked his personal bank account to Square and then deposited Tyson’s payments for Electric Motor Repair into his accounts. As a result, Tyson paid over $416,000 to Ranger’s fraudulent scheme.
Ranger could receive 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release and restitution at sentencing. Federal prosecutors agreed to a two-level reduction in the applicable offense level for accepting responsibility for the crime. Prosecutors have also recommended a sentence at the low end of the federal sentencing guideline range.
