USD 253 Emporia is gearing up for graduation activities this weekend.
Graduation is set to take place Sunday at White Auditorium. EHS seniors joined the most recent installment of the Emporia Showcase with USD 253 Superintendent Dr. Allison Anderson-Harder Tuesday to discuss their senior years and express their excitement for the coming festivities.
Hunter McCoy says his senior year went well. McCoy split his time between EHS and Flint Hills Technical College where he took concurrent classes.
McCoy says the school year flew by for him.
Kaitlyn Laudy says her senior year was better than she originally anticipated given the COVID-19 pandemic. She says the past year has been a great learning experience both in and out of the classroom.
Margarita Alvarez says the school year exceeded her expectations considering the impacts of COVID-19. She says she is planning to attend Kansas State next year and will be majoring in Animal Science.
Alvarez says the past school year has been trying, but thankfully she had a strong support system behind her the entire way.
2020 Miss Emporia Latina Diana Magana says her favorite part of her high school experience has been all of the opportunities for involvement available at EHS.
Graduation is set to take place starting at 3 pm. EHS Principal Dathan Fischer is anticipating they will have around 310 students as part of the 2021 graduating class in attendance.
Attendance will be limited due to COVID-19 with all students allowed to have four friends or family members in attendance Sunday. The graduation will be live-streamed as well online at USD253.org.
