Kansas continued its recovery from the peak of the coronavirus pandemic a year ago, based on the latest jobless report from the Kansas Department of Labor.
The jobless rate dipped from 3.7 percent in March to 3.5 percent last month. Labor Secretary Amber Shultz:
Kansas has recovered almost two-thirds of the total number of jobs lost in March and April of last year as the pandemic started.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate dropped from 3.4 percent in March to an even 3 percent in April. It had been 8.7 percent a year ago. Lyon County’s jobless rate, which had been 8.5 percent a year ago and 3.5 percent in March, is now 2.9 percent.
Areawide, Chase County, which had the highest unemployment rate at 12.2 percent in April 2020, now has the lowest at 2.1 percent. All area counties have current unemployment rates no higher than 3.1 percent.
