Two new candidates have thrown their hat into the ring for Emporia City Commission this election cycle.
Local business owner and entrepreneur Travis Hitt announced his intention to run for a seat on the commission Tuesday. Hitt has been heavily involved with the community both from an entertainment and fundraising standpoint over the past several years.
He says his decision to run for City Commission was born out of a desire to take his involvement in the community to the next level.
Also Tuesday, Todd Maddox announced his intention to run for Emporia City Commission. Maddox, who ran for City Commission in 2019 and the Kansas House last year, says he’s running to “bring people who are not typically heard into the fold.” He also says the city is moving in an “OK” direction.
Back in March, incumbent Jon Geitz announced he would not be seeking re-election to the commission after serving for the past seven years. Fellow incumbent Susan Brinkman is on the ballot, but incumbent Danny Giefer has yet to file for re-election at this time.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon next Tuesday.
