Paul Meinke is now a candidate for USD 253 Emporia school board.
Meinke, the lead pastor of Emporia’s Church of the Nazarene, says he wants to serve as an advocate for children and improve their opportunities, regardless of their background or situation.
Meinke says the past year, which has included abrupt position changes for superintendent, high school assistant principal/athletics director and football coach, drew him to run.
Meinke graduated from Mid America Nazarene University with a master’s degree in education and previously as a church administrator or pastor in the Kansas City metropolitan area and Wichita. He and his wife have a child at Emporia Middle School and another at Emporia High.
There are three incumbents on the ballot. Mike Crouch has filed for re-election, while Doug Epp and Melissa Ogleby have not. The filing deadline is noon this upcoming Tuesday.
