A lot of work has gone into the house at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, and the main work is now completed.
Chief of Interpretation Heather Brown tells KVOE News there is now handicapped accessibility for two of the three floors. Electrical, roofing and HVAC — heating, ventilation and air conditioning — improvements were also part of the process, as was a return to original interior colors.
The house will officially re-open to the public at 10 am Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will be guided house tours throughout the day starting at 10:30 am. Wagon rides will also be part of the event. Guided tours and grounds tours are also possible Sunday and Monday, weather permitting.
The house has been closed down for about 10 months as work continued. The house was built in 1881, and Brown says the house was in good shape considering its age.
