The Jones Aquatic Center is opening soon. Exactly when is currently based on the weather forecast.
The goal is to open on Memorial Day, but the forecast may not let that happen. During KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Friday, Aquatic Center Supervisor Jennifer Wegener said a lot rides on the temperatures.
A lot also rides on whether there’s any rain or lightning, and currently the forecast calls for showers and-or thunderstorms for most of next week, including Monday. Hours are tentatively from 1-6 pm, and Wegener says announcements will come around 12:30 pm as to whether opening will be delayed or canceled. If there is a delay, there will likely be a second announcement around 3 pm on whether the center will open.
Emporia’s splash pad at Peter Pan Park is tentatively set to open for the season at 10 am Saturday. Hours will be 10 am to 8 pm Tuesdays through Sundays and noon to 8 pm Mondays.
Meanwhile, other community pools in the KVOE listening area have been targeting this weekend for their start date. Cottonwood Falls, Lyndon and Osage City are set to open their pools Saturday. The Council Grove Aquatic Center is set for a Sunday opening. The Madison City Pool is set to open Monday, weather permitting. Lebo’s pool isn’t set to open until June 11.
