It’s officially the last minute for candidates wanting to file their paperwork for the 2021 elections.
Prospective candidates can file their paperwork at the Lyon County Election Office from 8 am to noon, or they can withdraw if they are already on the ballot and have changed their minds. After that, the ballot is set.
In Emporia, several incumbents have not filed for election to this point. This list includes Danny Giefer for Emporia City Commission as well as Doug Epp and Melissa Ogleby for USD 253 Emporia school board. So far, 10 candidates are needed to force a primary with these positions. Six have filed for both City Commission and school board.
Several city and school board positions in Lyon County’s smaller communities still have no candidates filed. That list includes Reading mayor and all three Admire City Council positions.
Potential candidates with questions about the process can call the Election Office at 620-341-3245 or go online to www.lyoncounty.org and find Election Office under the Government drop-down tab.
