On Wednesday, the USD 253 Food Service Department will start serving summer meals at no cost to students or their families.
The program is made possible by the US Department of Agriculture. Food Service Director Denise Kater says meals will be available in a grab-and-go format as was the case last year. Parents and guardians will need a card that will show how many meals they need.
The program will run through the end of July. Meals will be available weekdays at Riverside, Village and William Allen White from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Parents will get the day’s lunch and the next day’s breakfast when they arrive.
The district served almost 70,000 meals last summer over 102,000 grab-and-go meals during the school year that ended last week. It also served almost 5,000 meals to quarantined students.
If you have questions or special arrangements, call the Food Service Department at 620-341-2382.
