Lyon County’s Emergency Communications Center is now using a higher standard of fire protocols to help callers during life-threatening circumstances.
Lyon County dispatchers are now Emergency Fire Dispatch certified, which now meets the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch worldwide standard for critical incident care. The protocols are designed to increase responder safety while improving incident outcomes. They will also better prepare all county responder agencies, including fire departments in Emporia, Allen-Admire, Americus, Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Miller, Olpe and Reading.
Dispatchers have been trained to handle a range of emergencies for decades, but the EFD protocols now officially certify dispatchers to help with backcountry rescues, lost residents, outside tank fires, sinking vehicles, weather or other disaster situations and a range of fire emergencies.
