Turnout was steady Saturday at the Emporia Masonic Lodge, where doctors and staff provided a variety of potentially life-saving cancer screenings free of charge.
The event was put on through the Emporia Masonic Lodge in partnership with the University of Kansas Cancer Center.
Dr. Kaitlyn Kollmann of the University of Kansas spoke with KVOE and highlighted how the measures taken at the clinic are critical in the battle against skin cancer.
Although it is understandable that some may have approached the clinic with caution, it was very clear that the sooner the diagnosis, the better.
Robert Nelson, president of the Emporia Masonic Lodge, was also happy to see the great turnout and acknowledge that the screenings would be a helpful tool in increasing cancer awareness throughout the local community.
Screenings were available for skin, prostate and colorectal cancers. Body mass index and blood pressure checks will also be available, and there will also be resources available for people who want to quit smoking.
