Air temperatures aren’t the only thing increasing locally.
Over the past six months, air conditioning unit prices have steadily increased with the latest price hike occurring just last month according to Modern Air Co-Owner Travis Sullivan during a recent interview with KVOE News. Sullivan says prices over the past year have risen anywhere between three to 12 percent.
Sullivan says, like most price increases over the past year, you can point to the COVID-19 pandemic as the major cause.
Sullivan explained that typically when prices begin to rise they do not come back down, so at this time they’re just hoping they will not continue to jump. He went on to say that due to the price increases there is a possibility that Modern Air could have to increase their labor costs at some point.
In addition to the impacts of COVID-19, Sullivan says other factors have played a role in businesses increasing their labor costs such as the increase in the cost of gas and fuel.
Sullivan says at this time they have not noticed any decrease in demand for AC units as they are “staying pretty busy.” Additionally, Sullivan says if they did have to increase their prices it would not be a significant hike, but simply enough to offset the costs of labor and materials.
Temperatures this coming week are expected to enter the low 90’s for the first time this year with a high of 91 forecasted for Tuesday.
