Expectant moms got their children-to-be off to a good start by attending the Lyon County Community Baby Shower on Wednesday.
Expecting moms received health information from a range of professionals at the different booths as well as free materials on parenting, community resources and support options. Much of the information dealt with safe sleep and avoiding Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and Newman Regional Health Women’s Life Center Director Heather Aylward says current guidance has newborns sleeping separately from their parents.
Wade’s Warriors founder Gail Barrett says there is a lot of information about sleep safety, but not all of it is valid. And there is a lot of work needed to sift through all that information.
Organizers changed the format to account for COVID-19. Typically, there has been one session, but there were four sessions this time to allow for social distancing. Barrett says there will be some discussions about having at least two sessions in future baby showers.
Barrett says about 60 women got free pack-and-play equipment by attending the event.
