The Emporia Senior American legion lost both games they played in the Sam Ellis Classic Friday.
In the first game, they were outscored by the Kansas Senators 7-4. The Senators scored 4 runs in the first inning and never trailed.
Post 5 scored 3 runs in the 4th inning. Vance Kinsey, Jaxon Dial, and Drew Hess also drove in runs. The Senators added 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Both teams scored a run in the 5th as the Senators held on for the win.
The Post 5 seniors were outscored by Ottawa 16-1. After a scoreless 1st inning Ottawa scored 3 runs in the 2nd, 4 runs in the 3rd, and 2 runs in the 4th innings before Emporia scored their lone run in the 5th inning. Ottawa closed out the scoring with 7 runs in the 7th inning.
Assistant Coach Aaron Mejia says they need to put both games behind them and come out with a new attitude.
After giving up 23 runs yesterday Coach Mejia said they did save their better pitchers for the rest of the tournament.
The next game for the Post 5 Seniors will be a 7 pm Saturday against a team to be determined.
Games resume Saturday at noon with the Kansas Senators playing Newton. At 2:30 pm the Topeka Scrappers play the Ottawa Arrows.
