The Emporia Community Foundation is celebrating a milestone year.
It’s a year late due to coronavirus, but the organization is marking its 25th year of serving the area with Emporia Community Foundation Celebrates, a weeklong set of activities and announcements to highlight its work. As part of KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Monday, Executive Director Becky Nurnberg said there was some creativity involved, given last year’s plans were wiped out and this year’s plans were adjusted as a precaution.
There will be two $500 surprise grants per day all this week to area nonprofits, with 10 partners selected through a random draw. The first recipient was the Chase County Children’s Fund, augmenting the agency’s work with early childhood programs.
There are over 75 local nonprofits that have funds with the Community Foundation, and there are now well over 300 individual funds within the foundation as well. It now manages nearly $39 million in assets after starting with $5,000. In addition, the Community Foundation is well into the planning stages for its annual Match Day fundraising event coming in November.
