The Detroit Tigers scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and never trailed on the way to a 10-3 win over the Kansas City Royals Monday night.
Royals manager Mike Matheny said they had their chances they were 1-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 baserunners.
Hanser Alberto doubled to drive in a run. Salvador Perez singles to drive in a run and Jorge Soler walked with the bases loaded to score a run.
The Royals and Tigers will play again Tuesday night. Mike Minor will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 7:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE1400AM/96.9FM beginning at 6:30 pm.
The Royals played without left fielder Andrew Benintendi, he has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured rib.
Major League Baseball provided the first standings update since Phase 1 of the voting for the All-Star game launched on June 3, revealing the top 10 vote-getters at each position, plus the top 15 in the outfield, in both the American League and the National League.
Salvador Perez is the top vote-getter among American League Catchers.
Whit Merrifield is 5th among second basemen, Adalberto Mondesi is 5th among shortstops and Andrew Benintendi is 11th among outfielders.
The top three vote-getters during phase 1 of fan voting at each position, plus the top nine outfielders, in each league will advance to the second phase of the voting, which will ultimately determine the starters for this year’s All-Star Game to be played at Coors Field in Denver.
