Summer-like weather conditions didn’t stop Ron’s Ride from taking place Wednesday and raising money for Special Olympics Kansas in the process.
Temperatures were in the low 80s when the ride took off from 12th and Commercial shortly after 9:30 am and were in the upper 80s by the time the ride ended at Olpe’s Murphy Oil around two hours later. KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas made the 10-mile trek to Olpe again this year as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run proceedings.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says he was thankful to be involved in the proceedings this year.
Activities started with a parade in downtown Emporia before a short stop at Hetlinger Developmental Services. Team Schnak founder Kent Schnakenberg helped to develop the stop several years ago.
Special Olympics Kansas Regional Director Mitch Guthrie was impressed by the support from local law enforcement and the community.
