Lyon County is receiving almost $400,000 as part of a state cost sharing program to renovate a bridge.
The span in question is on Road Z between Roads 60 and 70, or near the APAC quarry entrance about three miles south of Hartford. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says this will replace the existing deck and guardrail.
Assistant County Engineer Jim Brull says the county plans to open bids and start construction soon on the project. Lyon County must provide a 20 percent cash match and cover costs including preliminary engineering and design, right-of-way and utilities.
The Lyon County project was one of 30 transportation construction projects approved for this round of cost share funding. The program is part of the state’s 10-year transportation plan, which is designed to improve safety, support job growth, alleviate congestion and increase access. Nearly 120 communities requested funding totaling around $103 million with this round of projects.
Federal coronavirus relief dollars let the state double its normal amount of cost share dollars.
