Several fireworks shows have been announced for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Emporia has announced plans for its fireworks display July 4 at Emporia State University. The display will begin around dusk, or around 9:45-10 pm, and should last between 20 and 30 minutes. Tailgating will be allowed in Emporia State’s parking lots, but no alcoholic beverages or fireworks will be allowed on university property.
Local pyrotechnician Bernie Toso and several volunteers will put on this year’s show. Fireworks supplies are getting short worldwide, but City Manager Mark McAnarney says that won’t be a problem for the Emporia show.
Emporia Police, Emporia State Police & Safety and Lyon County deputies will handle traffic control, with Emporia Fire also on hand to provide medical assistance if needed.
The city’s annual fireworks sales and discharge period is June 27-July 5.
Meanwhile, Admire has fireworks planned for 9 pm July 3 at the city park. There will not be a potluck supper this year.
Lebo, meanwhile, has its fireworks show July 3 at the town’s west park as part of its annual Stars and Stripes Celebration July 2-4.
Lebo had its fireworks show last year, but most other shows were canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
