No injuries were reported, however, a piece of equipment was destroyed at the Lyon County Transfer station after a late morning fire developed Saturday.
Emporia Fire Crews responded to the transfer station around 10:30 am after an excavator at the facility caught fire. Thick black smoke was visible and the excavator was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.
Firefighters had the flames under control quickly and the fire did not spread to any other equipment or buildings on the property. The excavator is considered a total loss according to Steinlage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
