SOS Strong kicked off Monday night, and Director Connie Cahoone is excited to see how the fundraiser goes this year.
Last year’s event was held virtually due to coronavirus. This year will see pre-pandemic operations, and Cahoone says the fundraiser comes at an opportune time for SOS.
Last year’s effort set a fundraising record with over $41,000 generated, better than double the normal goal, and this year’s campaign starts with $20,000 total in matching grants from BJ and Kristy Bayer and an anonymous donor.
Twenty-one men will be involved. Each participant is trying to raise at least $1,000 for the cause. They have also taken a pledge to lead by example, not blame victims, be a positive upstander rather than a willing bystander, not engage in any acts of violence, and always speak for what is right. KVOE News reporter Tagan Trahoon is participating for the second straight year.
To donate, go online to www.soskansas.com and click on the SOS Strong link that pops up when you go to the website. You can choose your donation amount and the SOS Strong Ambassador you want to support. Checks can be made payable to SOS at 1420 C of E Drive in Emporia.
The awards celebration will be July 22 at the SOS Community Advocacy and Service Complex, 1420 C of E Drive.
