(ESU) Emporia State’s over 350 student-athletes combined for a department-wide GPA of 3.26 during the spring 2021 semester. Nine of the 11 programs maintained at least a 3.00 GPA for the semester. A total of 266 of the 377 student-athletes, trainers, and cheerleaders for Emporia State had a 3.0 GPA during the semester while 62 had a 4.0 GPA in the spring.
This is the 25th straight semester the Hornets have posted at least a 3.0 department-wide GPA and the 3.26 is the second-highest department-wide GPA since Emporia State began keeping records of it in 2007.
Softball had the highest team GPA at 3.84 as all 19 members of the team had at least a 3.00 GPA with ten earning a 4.00 in the spring semester.
The 20 members of the soccer squad combined for a 3.67 GPA while going 9-1-0 in the spring season. Six players posted a 4.00 GPA during the semester.
Volleyball turned in a 3.64 team GPA for the fall with five players of their 12 players recording a 4.00 for the semester.
The nine-player men’s tennis came in next with a 3.44 semester GPA followed closely by the women’s team with their seven players posting a 3.42 team GPA. Each team had three players earn a 4.0 GPA during the spring.
The women’s track and field team is the largest women’s team at Emporia State with 51 athletes. They were able to post a 3.40 combined GPA thanks in large part to 14 student-athletes earning a 4.00 in the spring including Alyssa Conway and Clara Eilert who both competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with Eilert earning All-American honors.
The 11 members of the Lady Hornet basketball team recorded a 3.26 team GPA and as they advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time in the last 25 years.
The 68 men on the track and field team posted a 3.18 team GPA with five student-athletes recording a 4.00 GPA for the semester.
Football is the largest team on campus and their 102 players combined for a 3.17 team GPA with five Hornets recording a 4.00 and 34 players posting at least a 3.50 GPA for the semester.
Men’s basketball just missed the 3.00 mark with a 2.99 team GPA with two of their 13 players earning a 4.0 in the spring while baseball’s 37 players had a 2.64 team GPA with three earning a 4.0 for the semester.
In addition to the athletic programs, Emporia State also reported the team GPAs of the student athletic trainers and cheer squad. The student trainers had a 3.45 group GPA while the cheer squad turned in a 3.55 GPA.
