Work begins Monday on a state highway bridge east of Reading.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is starting work to replace the bridge the Kansas Highway 170 bridge over the Marais des Cygnes bridge just east of the Lyon-Osage county line. K-170 will be closed at the work site, so drivers will need to use Kansas Highway 99 and US Highway 56 to get around the work zone. KDOT says it could take 40 minutes to use the official detours.
Work should be done in about a year. Construction will take place Mondays through Saturdays during daylight hours when weather permits.
A.M. Cohron and Sons of Atlantic, Iowa, had the winning bid of $3.5 million for the project.
