Barring more heavy rainfall, Lyon County roads may soon reopen and most area rivers may avoid going into flood.
Lyon County only had two roads closed Friday despite rain totals of 0.75 inches to over 7 inches:
*1100 block W
*Road 150 between T and V
A flash flood watch remains in effect for Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties until 7 am Sunday. A flood warning for Coffey and Osage counties was canceled Saturday.
Also still in effect is the flood warning for the Cottonwood River at Florence, affecting western Chase County, until 12:45 pm Sunday. The river crested at just under 26 feet, above flood stage of 22, and may not go back within its banks until early Sunday.
Other area gauges had significant increases in their river levels, but none are expected to go into flood the next few days after anywhere from 0.75 to over 7 inches of rainfall Friday just in Lyon County. Several, including the Cottonwood from Emporia to Cottonwood Falls and the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids, could approach flood stage before falling.
Rain chances are low Sunday but pickup Monday and stay at a moderate level for Tuesday and Wednesday. If you have rain totals, storm reports or schedule adjustments, call KVOE at 620-342-1400, email kvoe@kvoe.com or message the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863.
