Area farmers have not had much in the way of middle ground when it comes to weather conditions this spring.
Wheat crops were having some issues after the wet second half of May, and Jacquelyne Leffler of Leffler Prime Performance near Americus says her crops were still having troubles drying out when Friday’s rainfall hit.
Leffler’s yields have ranged from nothing to 70 bushels an acre, and Leffler — a recent guest on the Kansas Wheat Tour — says only one variety had the protein needed to pay extra.
Leffler’s corn was “leaned over pretty good,” but it’s not showing any signs of long-term damage so it should get back to normal once conditions dry out.
