USD 253 Emporia’s turnover rate for 2021 is just 13 percent, however, those numbers are more positive than administrators had originally anticipated.
The district has 55 employees that will be leaving the district this year including nine administrators. Assistant Superintendent Kelly Bolin tells KVOE News while the district never wants to see staff move on, the percentage is “the sweet spot” for staff turnover.
Bolin went on to say that she is very pleased with this year’s turnover rate given the district had projected a higher percentage given the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts on education over the past year.
In 2020, the district had 45 staff move on — 10 percent of all classified staff — and 61 — 14 percent of classified staff — in 2019. Bolins says the current trends show that the district is maintaining consistency in its staff turnover rate.
Recruitment numbers are slightly down from previous years by nine staff members with 25 new staff recorded as of this month. Last year, the district had 36 new staff by August.
Additionally, the district has added five new special education teachers which is well below the district’s total of 14 from last fall.
