Locations haven’t officially been announced yet, but here is a new transportation option in Emporia.
A partnership that developed rapidly between Bird Rides and the city of Emporia earlier this year has led to a “flock” of around 100 scooters that are now available in downtown Emporia. Commissioners recently adjusted city code so the scooters can’t be used on major highways unless riders are using a crosswalk to cross the street. Scooters can’t be used on city sidewalks. They also can’t be parked on public streets if they interfere with other vehicles.
Residents need to download an app to both find the scooters and pay for rides. The city is not investing any money in the project.
