The Texas Rangers scored 3 runs in the first inning off of Kansas City Royals Starter Brady Singer on the way to a 4-1 win over the Royals, completing a 3 game sweep.
After the 1st inning Royals pitching settled down holding the Rangers to 4 hits. Texas scored their 4th run on an error, one of 3 committed by the Royals.
Offensively the Royals scored 1 run on 8 hits. Whit Merrifield drove in Kelvin Gutierrez with a single in the 5th. The Royals stranded 7 baserunners and were 1-9 with runners in scoring position. The Royals losing skid is now at 5 games.
The Royals begin a 4 game series in Boston tonight. Danny Duffy will be on the mound for the Royals with the first pitch set for 6:10p.
Salvador Perez is on to the next round of All-Star voting. The veteran Royals catcher was announced as a finalist to be an All-Star starter on Sunday and moved on to the next phase of voting, which begins this morning at 11 a.m. and ends on Thursday at 1 p.m. The All-Star starters will be announced on Thursday. Pitchers and reserves will be revealed on July 4. The All-Star Game will be played on July 13 in Denver.
