The Boston Red Sox rallied for a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals Monday night in the first of a 4 game series.
The Royals held a 5-2 lead after 2 innings. Carlos Santana hit a 3 run home run in the 1st inning. Michael Taylor and Whit Merrifield hit solo home runs in the 2nd inning. The Royals were scoreless the rest of the night.
Boston hit 4 home runs in the game, 2 were by Hunter Renfro, a 2 run home run in the 4th, and the go-ahead home run in the 6th.
Royals manager Mike Matheny liked the start.
The Royals and Red Sox play again tonight with Brad Keller making the start for the Royals. The first pitch is set for 6:10 pm.
The Royals made a roster move Monday. They designated 3rd baseman Kelvin Gutierrez for assignment and called up Emmanuel Rivera from Omaha. Rivera was batting 282 at Omaha with 14 home runs and 40 RBI. Rivera was 2 for 4 in his major league debut.
