There is a familiar face in a new role at USD 386 Madison-Virgil as newly-appointed superintendent-in-waiting Steve Jowers officially assumes the position July 1, transitioning from former superintendent Stu Moeckel.
Jowers previously served as principal for Madison Elementary School and also taught at Olpe Elementary. He said he is excited and thankful for his new role and that he is ready to get back to see the staff and students.
With the COVID-19 pandemic seemingly winding down and new protocols being developed, Jowers says that plans from the past will be helpful to ensure both student and faculty safety.
Jowers said that he plans to introduce and expand programs that would identify the school’s needs. Agriculture-oriented educational programs, an expanded weight room and a newly-implemented early learning center will all be points of emphasis for USD 386 this coming school year.
Jowers is working towards his superintendent certification and should have that in hand next year. USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright is serving as Madison-Virgil’s interim superintendent.
Enrollment for USD 386 will be in-person starting August 4. You can also print off documentation for enrollment and drop it off at the district offices.
