A duplex in southeast Emporia suffered heavy fire and smoke damage, but the situation could have been worse if Sunday’s fire had much longer to develop unchecked.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says a neighbor called 911 shortly after seeing smoke coming from the eaves of 709 Riverview Circle. Emporia and Olpe firefighters responded quickly, limiting the fire and smoke damage to the attic of that duplex. The cause and exact origination point of Sunday’s fire are both currently under investigation.
Conley says nobody was hurt in Sunday’s incident.
