Based on KVOE News’ most recent poll, the vast majority of KVOE listeners approve a push to increase wages for city staffers.
Close to 260 people, or 85 percent of participating residents, say they would support a wage increase of up to 12 percent for city workers as discussed late month by Emporia city commissioners. Less than 50 said they would not support an increase of up to that amount.
City commissioners are in the middle of budget discussions for next year and have said they plan to keep the wage discussions separate from those for the overall budget at this time.
This followed another poll asking residents if they would use Amtrak service if it was available. Close to 1,200 residents, or 97 percent of those who participated, said they would indeed use Amtrak. Less than 40 people said they would not use Amtrak.
The KVOE News poll this week involves the city of Emporia’s fireworks policy, focusing on whether the current sales and discharge period should have fewer days, shorter hours per day or be eliminated. You can go to the KVOE.com home page and news page to vote. You can also vote below — and at the bottom of our fireworks complaints stories from the holiday weekend.
