One of two Emporia men convicted as part of a case involving an alleged shooting and a separate but related home invasion robbery learned his sentence Wednesday.
Kenneth Hopkins, 21, received 29 months in prison and restitution of $6,550. His sentence will be served consecutively to a 2018 attempted aggravated sexual battery case where he was on parole. Hopkins pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit robbery in May after originally facing charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and criminal trespass.
Co-defendant Lance Sutton is awaiting a sentencing hearing Aug. 27. Sutton’s case went to trial last month. He was eventually convicted of single counts of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. A third suspect, Marcos Diaz, has been at large since Emporia Police announced an investigation and a search for suspects in early November.
All three were sought in connection to a shooting incident at Linn and Whildin, followed soon after by a robbery at 9 South Rural.
