For the past few weeks, the #VaxToNormal campaign has been focusing on incentivizing area residents to get COVID-19 vaccines. This weekend, the focus is on the vaccination half of the campaign.
The first #VaxToNormal vaccine clinic will be at Emporia’s Riverside Elementary from 8-10 am Saturday. United Way of the Flint Hills Executive Director Mickey Edwards says the two components of the campaign go hand in hand.
This is a drive-thru format. Residents need to use the South West Street entrance at Riverside and then use the circle drive to get to the vaccination site. After that, they need to park in the school’s north parking lot for 15 minutes to make sure they don’t have any noticeable symptoms. Once that process is complete, they can then leave using South Walnut Street.
Saturday’s vaccination involves the Pfizer vaccine, so it’s the first of two shots for people attending. People that get vaccinated will receive a $10 Emporia Main Street gift certificate. People who get tested will get a $20 Main Street gift certificate.
Meanwhile, prize drawings continue Friday on the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief fund’s Facebook page. Part of the grand prize to be handed out Sept. 10 now includes up to two years of free car washes at Mr. G’s Express.
