Osage County deputies are investigating an eight-year-old missing person case as a homicide after the investigation took an unfortunate turn earlier this year.
The Sheriff’s Office says the case started with a missing report to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office involving 43-year-old Jeffrey Myers of Ottawa back in May 2013. Kansas Missing and Unsolved says Myers disappeared shortly after saying he was going to Topeka to return a vehicle.
In March, Osage County deputies recovered human remains at a remote and currently unspecified location in the county. Further investigation has positively identified those remains as belonging to Myers.
The case has included hundreds of interviews and several searches since the initial report. The process has included the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Douglas and Osage county sheriff’s offices and Topeka Police.
