Official paperwork is not immediately available, but the Lyon County Attorney’s Office has charged 23-year-old Jamison Durkee after an alleged law enforcement pursuit through Lyon County on Saturday night.
County Attorney Marc Goodman has filed formal charges of felony flee and elude, obstruction and a raft of traffic counts after an incident that originated Saturday night in Coffey County, went allegedly at high speeds through Lyon County and ended with Durkee’s arrest Sunday morning at the Kansas Turnpike Matfield Green service exit. A first court appearance date is pending.
The incident may have had its origins with a stolen car out of Missouri, but Lyon County was first made aware of the case when Coffey County deputies asked for help in locating and stopping a car moving southbound on Interstate 35 at a high rate of speed. Authorities say speeds continued largely unabated around Emporia and south on the Kansas Turnpike before Durkee, 23, allegedly ditched the car near the Matfield Green service exit and fled on foot. Once he was captured, Durkee was taken to Newman Regional Health, treated for minor injuries, and then booked into the Lyon County Jail.
Chase and Coffey counties have not announced whether they plan to file charges related to Saturday night’s alleged incident.
