USD 253 Emporia is asking parents and guardians to take a short survey that could lead to millions of dollars for local educational programs.
As part of the official enrollment process beginning next week, the district is asking for participation in the Household Economic Survey, which is replacing the National School Lunch Application for Free and Reduced Meals. Results of the survey will generate additional funding for the district in several categories, even though all students will receive free meals through the upcoming academic year. The district is looking to secure funding in the at-risk category and so-called title category for teacher salaries, offset costs for computers and Internet equipment and additional funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.
The survey can be submitted as part of the online enrollment process beginning July 19. It can also be submitted at Mary Herbert in person or by mail. Parents and guardians will be asked for household size and income. People can email communityrelations@usd253.net with questions.
