Lyon County residents are being asked to fill out a quick survey to assist with the county’s Fiber to the Home Initiative.
During a recent interview on KVOE’s Morning Show, County Controller Dan Williams stated that as part of the grant application the county is planning to submit to fund the project there are three “objectives” the county must provide. The first is a feasibility study, which Moss Adams will conduct following the approval of a contract by county commissioners Thursday, a plan for building out the network and proof of need.
The county is currently conducting a short “Lyon County Test Your Internet Speed” survey to locate the county’s underserved and unserved populations. Williams says the county needs at least a four percent sample rate, although, they are hoping for ten.
Williams says the ultimate goal of the project is to build a new broadband network to provide internet access to every household that wants it within the county. He says if they can accomplish this goal, Lyon County may become the first county in the US to be fully covered by “legitimate broadband.”
Williams says this opportunity could be a “real benefit” economically for the county.
Residents can find a link to the survey on the county website Lyoncounty.org. Click here to be taken directly to the survey.
For those without access to the internet, Williams says you can call the county offices and provide the needed information.
