Everyone, no matter the age, was able to let their imaginations soar at the special event held at White Auditorium Little Theater on Tuesday.
The event, led by Dr. Chris Albrecht, allowed kids and adults alike to carefully excavate and search for shark teeth fossils from 11 million-year-old soil that came all the way from a select location in North Carolina.
Dr. Albrecht reprised his role as Dr. Dig for the event. He talked about the activities they would be doing and that the excitement was noticeable from the very beginning.
After finding the fossils, there was a chart used where you could not only identify if it was a real fossil but also what specific ancient animal the specimen came from.
A fourth-grade teacher from Brockport, New York, Dr. Albrecht returned to Emporia yesterday for the worldwide launch of his second book, “The Rediscovery of Hope and Purpose: Awakening the Human Spirit.” Albrecht revisited Visser Hall, where he was inducted into the National Teacher’s Hall of Fame in 2019. He also was recognized as New York State Teacher of the Year in 2018.
Albrecht said that it was a warm welcome coming back to Emporia and that it was wonderful to be able to “get back to normal.”
