Two more Emporia schools have been approved for education redesign efforts.
The Kansas State Department of Education announcer Tuesday that Riverside and Timmerman Elementary schools were approved for the Apollo III phase of redesign. They follow Village, Walnut and Emporia Middle School (Apollo II) and William Allen White (Gemini II) from earlier in the process.
The Kansans Can redesign effort started in 2017 with seven schools. Now over 190 schools representing 71 districts are involved. This is the final phase of Kansans Can. This initiative calls for changes in the current education model to make learning more student-focused, with the addition of more support and resources to help students achieve success after both high school and college. The overall plan aspires to have Kansas lead the world in the success of each student, using tracking metrics like social-emotional growth, kindergarten readiness, individual plans of study, high school graduation rates and postsecondary success to achieve that goal.
