Over a dozen people have filed to fill two district judge vacancies in the Eighth Judicial District, including several with set connections to the KVOE listening area.
Fifth Judicial District Magistrate Judge Doug Jones is on the list announced by the Kansas court system recently. Morris County Attorney Laura Viar is also on the list.
The vacancies have developed after one recent retirement with another one coming. Judge Steven Hornbaker retired June 1 from his position serving Geary County. Chief Judge Michael Powers, who serves Marion County, will retire Aug. 20.
The Eighth District serves Morris, Dickinson, Geary and Marion counties. Public interviews will start Aug. 18 at the Geary County Courthouse in Junction City.
