The state of Kansas will help pay for a major street resurfacing project in Emporia later this decade.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly on Tuesday announced Emporia is receiving $300,000 in fiscal 2024 to repave US Highway 50, or East Sixth Avenue, from Mechanic Street to the east city limits. This puts the construction timetable at some point between July 2023 and June 2024.
The state money is part of the CCLIP, or City Connecting Link Improvement Program. As part of CCLIP, the state pays 90 percent of costs up to $330,000, but any costs over that are borne by the city — and this particular pavement project could run over $600,000.
In separate but related news, the state awarded Council Grove $300,000 for street resurfacing of US Highway 56.
