U.S. women’s basketball star Sue Bird and baseball infielder Eddy Alvarez were named the flag bearers for Team USA in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Bird and Alvarez will carry the United States flag during the opening ceremony on Friday.

*The US women’s soccer team had a listless opener, losing 3-0 to Sweden and seeing its 44-match unbeaten streak come to an end. Next up for the US is New Zealand.
*An American volleyball player tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival to Japan and is reportedly no longer participating in the Tokyo Olympics. The currently-unnamed athlete is the second member of Team USA to test positive for the virus after gymnast Kara Eaker tested positive and will remain in quarantine until further notice.
*Brisbane was picked Wednesday to host the 2032 Olympics, the inevitable winner of a one-city race steered by the International Olympic Committee to avoid rival bids. The Games will go back to Australia 32 years after the popular 2000 Sydney Olympics. Melbourne hosted in 1956.
