The Kansas Turnpike Authority continues its latest round of bridge-raising process, which affects a number of spans across the KVOE listening area.
Communications Specialist Amanda Miller says bridges are disconnected from their support structures as part of the process. Hydraulic pistons serve as temporary supports before the bridges are raised, perhaps as high as 17 inches as bridges are lifted to at least a minimum standard of 15 feet, 9 inches. Roads going above the highway are closed during this process.
Miller says this is the fourth round of raising bridges and another phase could be taking place within the next few years. Phases typically go 1-2 years.
