A respected veteran and retired business owner who played a role in the creation of Emporia’s All Veterans Memorial has sadly passed away.
Harry Groh passed away Jul. 14 at Wexford Place Assisted Living in Parkville, MO at the age of 79. Groh was the longtime owner of Groh Printing from 1962 until his retirement in 2007.
Earlier, Groh served in the United States Army in the 79th Engineers where he attained the rank of Lieutenant and earned the Army Commendation Medal. Groh was known for his love of the Emporia community and his country as was evident by his work with other local veterans to create the All Veterans Memorial in addition to being a charter member of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo and Lyon County Crime Stoppers.
Fellow veteran Frank Lowery says he will dearly miss his often long yet informative conversations with Groh.
Groh is survived by his wife Kay, four children and six grandchildren. Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Friday at 1:30 pm.
Memorial contributions can be made to the All Veterans Memorial in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
