A former Emporia State University professor has been charged with rape and other sexual offenses.
Brice Obermeyer, 46, was arrested Monday and subsequently charged with a single count of rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct, according to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman. Obermeyer was also charged with one count of aggravated burglary with an alternate count of criminal trespass, along with single counts of criminal restraint and stalking.
Goodman says Obermeyer has posted a $150,000 bond.
The affidavit has not been released, but the legal complaint provided to KVOE News indicates alleged actions in Emporia on July 6-7 against a person in their early 50s. Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Hayes says officers began investigating July 10.
A first court appearance date is pending.
Obermeyer worked at ESU from August 2004 to May 2019. He was an associate professor in the Sociology Department. He’s currently listed as an adjunct associate professor in the anthropology department at Johnson County Community College and has also served as tribal historic preservation officer for the Delaware Tribe of Indians.
